Benefits of Aromatherapy

by Nature's Source 30 Aug 2022

Aromatherapy is the practise of using natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, and roots of plants to enhance psychological and physical well-being.  Many essential oils on the market are not 100% pure, even though they may make this claim. Purity is very important in order for the essential oil to deliver the most effective aromatherapy experience for your mind, body and soul.AuraCacia was the first company to be certified in essential oils and every year 1% of their funds go to support many projects over the world, for example, building wells in Madagascar. They use industry-leading testing which include gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, which guarantees they provide us with the highest quality of essential oils that are available. Whenever possible, they have certified organic oils as well.

Essential oils are highly concentrated substances and a little goes a long way. When they are blended according to similar therapeutic properties, their combined synergies increase their healing effects. Not many other products can provide so many benefits in just one small bottle! Inhaling aromas from essential oils may stimulate cognitive function, mood enhancement and act as a mild sedative. They can also be used topically as they are easily absorbed into the skin and are active in the bloodstream within 20 minutes. Other uses are pain relief; calming the nervous system and immune-enhancing via the lymph.

A wide variety of essential oils are available, and each have their own healing properties:

Lavender – calming, relaxing, does not diminish cognitive function; dissipates heat; famous for wounds; anti-inflammatory; emollient

Peppermint – cooling stimulant; 30% increased alertness; improves athletic workout

Tea tree- anti microbial, but NOT the strongest. Clove is the strongest than cinnamon, thyme and oregano. Clove is good for toothaches and as a bug repellant

Sandalwood is the strongest anti-fungal

Lemongrass is the strongest to kill mold, used in household cleaners

Patchouli – repels mosquitos

Frankincense (top note)– anti microbial; anti spasmodic; increases immune response

Rosemary – helps short-term memory

Ylang ylang - aphrodisiac

Neroli – soothing oil

Jasmine – improves eye coordination, great for athletes

With the cold season on its way you can easily create your very own foot bath to relieve tired and achy feet. I have also included a recipe for sinus congestion to help open up the air ways of the nose. Let the aromas warm you up this winter season:)

Sugar foot scrub

2 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

2 drops Rosemary Essential Oil

3 drops Lavender Essential Oil

¼ cup Sugar

¼ cup Sweet Almond Oil

In a bowl mix together sugar and sweet almond oil.  Add Peppermint essential oil and lavender essential oil and mix well.  Use right away by soaking feet in a foot-bath, bath or shower.  Gently massage the soles and toes in a circular motion, paying attention to sore or dry, rough areas. This polishes dry skin, leaving your skin hydrated and your feet silky smooth to the touch.

Sinuses and bronchioles

1 drop frankincense

1 drop peppermints

3 drops argan oil

Mix all ingredients together. While keeping your eyes closed for a few minutes, rub under your nose and breath.
