FAQ

How does it taste compared to tap water?

Many people find Santevia alkaline water tastes and feels smoother than conventional tap water. This difference results from the addition of beneficial trace minerals into the water, which provide a “smooth” taste. The products are designed to recreate water from a fresh mountain stream. Santevia alkaline water can be used for drinking, cooking, and to make better-tasting coffee and tea.

According to sommelier, Nick Pike, there are many subtleties between different brands of water. We partnered with Nick to taste test six kinds of water. Watch as he provides an insightful and entertaining commentary of the flavour profile of each water.

I have a coconut allergy; can I use your systems?

The primary two components for the Pitcher Filter are Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) and the Alkaline/Mineral ceramic balls. The GAC is made by heating coconut shells to over 800 degrees Celcius, which reduces it to the elemental state of carbon. There are no allergens or proteins remaining that could survive after that heat is applied. The Alkaline/Mineral ceramic balls are made from inorganic natural minerals (calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, etc.) and are fired as well. The Countertop model also uses these same methods and materials in manufacturing. This process destroys any proteins that would trigger an allergic response.

What is alkaline water?

Alkaline water is water with a pH higher than 7. pH stands for Potential of Hydrogen, and the pH scale (which ranges from 0 to 14) measures how acidic or alkaline a solution is. Zero is highly acidic, whereas 14 is highly alkaline. In the middle of the pH scale is 7.0 (neutral), and as a consequence, is neither acidic, nor alkaline.

Natural water can have different pH levels depending on the soil, vegetation, weather, and sunlight in the area. For example, rainwater is slightly acidic because it absorbs carbon dioxide from the air. Spring water is usually alkaline because it flows over rocks and minerals which naturally raises the pH, making it alkaline.

This is similar to Santevia water. Santevia adds minerals like calcium and magnesium, raising the pH by up to 2.0 units, these minerals make the water healthier for you and make the water taste better. Santevia water usually is around 8.5-9.5 pH, while tap water is usually neutral with a pH of 7.0
