Benfotiamine is a natural form of thiamin (vitamin B1). Thiamin is an effective inhibitor of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). AGEs are produced by a detrimental chemical process in which proteins are damaged by sugar products. This damage results in deactivated enzymes, damaged DNA and unhealthy signaling in the body.
