Shiatsu Therapy
What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is an ancient Eastern medical practice that is becoming increasingly popular as people discover its effectiveness as a natural healing therapy. Literally translated, Shiatsu means "finger pressure". A unique, non-invasive therapeutic bodywork designed to stimulate the body's inherent ability to self-healing.
From the foundations of Chinese medicine, Shiatsu Therapy evolved 3,500 years ago as a holistically preventative and rehabilitative health care therapy. In Japan, Shiatsu Therapy is currently regulated as a public-health care system.

The Art of Healing
Most of us have had a nagging pain in the neck, shoulder, and/or back; and old injury that makes performing simple tasks very difficult; or a stress-filled day that leaves you felling physically and emotionally drained. Today there are many ways to deal with such conditions, and Shiatsu Therapy is one of these ways - the art of self-healing.

How Does Shiatsu Work?
Shiatsu Therapy is based on the concepts of Oriental medical wisdom, that incorporates the theories of meridian or energy channels of the body. In Shiatsu, "ki" or vital energy in these channels, circulate freely creating a feeling of comfort and zest for life. However, when there is an imbalance of "ki" defined as a pattern of disharmony in the body, the stress, tension, headaches, irritability, and pain may be felt.

By placing appropriate and supporting pressures along the meridians to areas where "ki" is blocked, disrupted, and stagnated, allows the body's vital energy to re-balance itself; therefore, reducing pain, tension, stress, and discomfort, and ultimately normalizing the internal organ functions and restoring the body's energetic channels.
